The sound on here is bone-dissolving and fear-inducing with a pulsating rhythm that will make you wonder if you're even in the real world. Red Devils and Purple Ringers is what you look for when you want to lose your mind in a soup of acidic terror. It provides a chilling contrast to the rest of the tape in its lush ease. Though Red Devils and Purple Ringers does occasionally stray out of this territory, with "Michelle Song" being surprisingly soothing in its clean psychedelic guitars and watery effects. The lyrics that accompany these instruments area fear-inducing cocktail of surrealism, demonology, sex, technology, and illness, with "Tears of a Marionette" and "Drip" as good examples. The drums sometimes go into break-beats and fills that are groovy and jarring at the same time. The sinking feeling is constant, even during the horrifying slow crawls, and spine-tingling fast swirls of guitars. Though there is a sense of groove underneath the churning murk and it provides a nice pulse. It's the kind of sound that can make paint peel and have you feel as if you've descended into hell. The rhythm and movement of this thing also lends a lot to the terror and grime stored within. Still, I can only imagine how much more spine-chilling and warped this could sound as a proper studio album. The digital drums only add to the strangeness, being mechanical and surgical in contrast to the loose, slimy, and acidic feel of everything else. There are also demonic multi-layered black metal-like shrieks as the vocals which enhance the hellish and demented quality of the music. The two basses blend together into a very unsettling and murky tone that helps create a constant sinking feeling throughout the tape. The production sounds positively fried, but still very much listenable.

The way this thing is put together assures this. The whole goal of this tape is hallucinogenic terror. And as such, a deep-fried fever dream by the name of Shrum was born. He set out with a pair of bass guitars and a drum machine with the intent of creating the kind of stuff that bad trips are made of. As unusual as Acid Bath tended to be, shifting around in their genre and creating an air of deranged sickness, their bassist Audie Pitre would go above and beyond when it came to making trippy, diseased, evil sounding music.
